It’s not easy trying to find new and exciting places for a family day out, but there are so many great things to do with the kids in Derry.
Many of you will no doubt have exhausted a lot of the usual places and will now be hoping for ideas further afield.
We’ve rounded up some ideas for some great family days out in Co Derry below.

1. Our Place in Space
Our Place in Space was officially launched last month in the city and is set to enter its final full week on display.
The event is an epic scale model of the solar system designed by artist and children’s author Oliver Jeffers.
The 10km sculpture trail of the solar system will animate the riverside in Derry until May 22 and features an brilliant programme of events.
The trail begins at the ‘Sun’ in Bay Road Park moving along the park by the River Foyle, running through the city centre, before heading across the river to the Waterside greenway to ‘Pluto’.
It’s brilliant for family walks with the kids.
2. North West 200
The North West 200 is Ireland’s largest outdoor sporting event, attracting crowds in excess of 150,000 as well as the biggest names in the sport.
Taking place this week, the North West 200 circuit runs between the towns of Portrush, Portstewart and Coleraine – an area of outstanding natural beauty and home to the world-famous Giant’s Causeway.
This is the first North West 200 since 2019 due to the coronavirus pandemic.
Thousands of spectators have already flocked to the North Coast to watch the international road race event. The event ends on Saturday and fans are ready to make up for lost time by watching some of the quickest riders fly round the 8.9-mile course.
3. Curry’s Fun Park Portrush (Formally Barry’s)
Formally known as Barry’s Amusements, the new spot in Portrush opened at April 9.
The Big Dipper will still dominate the seafront with a score of other rides including Gooch’s Sizzler, Curry’s Crazy frogs, dodgems, carousel horses and new tokens.
The popular Portrush attraction was first opened in 1926 by the Trufelli family and welcomed many generations through its doors.
If you love flying along zip wires, wish they were faster and longer and the experience would never end, then zip trekking in Derry has your name on it.
Oakfire Adventures, just outside the city, has been enabling thrill seekers for over a decade.
Boasting four epic zip-lines, this adventure takes adrenaline junkies over the Faughan Valley and guarantees 100% craic.
5. The Jungle NI
Nestled in an enchanting woodland in the very heart of Northern Ireland, just 45 minutes from Derry, The Jungle NI is the perfect location to engage with life, and put to test your sense of daring and adventure.
The Jungle NI is a leading outdoor adventure centre offering exciting activities, events and funky accommodation suitable for all ages.
Activities include: High Ropes Tree Top Adventure for kids & adults, Archery, Clay Pigeon Shooting, Coasteering, Gruffalo Trail, Kids Polaris Quad Bikes, Laser Tag, Llama Trekking, Mountain Biking, Paintball, Segway Tours, Down Hill Zorbing.
